These are unusual times. We are called upon to shelter in place and only go out when it is absolutely necessary. The face mask is as ubiquitous as shoes. But what to do when we are used to a modern café society, and growing weary after four weeks—or even four days—of our own food? That’s where the good restaurateurs of the Annapolis area come in. They are still providing us with delightful food; it just has to be consumed someplace other than in the restaurant. Some innovative combination of folding chairs for ersatz sidewalk dining comes to mind. Is there a law against that? Or some governmental directive?
We have compiled a list of some of our favorite places that offer lovely food experiences and are open during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consult the establishment’s website and make your selections before you call. Every place has its own hours and specialties. They are there to serve you and perhaps help make social distancing a little less tedious.
“Fine dining is mostly a place. You want to go out,” says Arturo Ottavio of Osteria 177, La Posta, and Arturo’s—which is difficult when we are not allowed to gather en masse. Having the option to pick up a meal curbside from a favorite restaurant during these times helps to get through the day, not to mention helping those places stay open. Annapolitans still patronize their favorite places. “So it’s good,” says Ottavio. “People really show up. This is a beautiful town.” We will get through this together.
